Review of Ken's Apple Cider Vinaigrette

12/13/2014

Fellow salad lovers rejoice!  I have made a discovery that you may find informative.  The Ken's Steakhouse brand of salad dressings makes an Apple Cider Vinaigrette that I simply love!  Its creamy and tangy and so different from any other dressing that I have had.  I have acid reflux, and so dressings that I enjoyed as a kid (French for example) are often too acidic for me now as someone with this condition.  But this dressing does NOT cause my heartburn to act up!  Obviously, that ay not be the case for everyone, but I thought that was worth noting as I know I am not the only person with this problem.  I think it is the creaminess that offsets the acid.

It is my go to dressing now!  I frequently have it on a spinach salad with croutons, cheese and dried cranberries.  Do be aware that it is tangy, so there is acid in it (balsamic vinegar I believe), so dressing a salad too far in advance will result in mushy greens!  I highly suggest dressing it right before serving/eating.

I first discovered this dressing because it is the default dressing for Burger King's Apple and Cranberry salad.  My first bite had me addicted!  BUT-when I went to look for it in stores it wasn't available!  My heart was broken, but I became a regular purchaser of Burger King salads to get my hands on that dressing!  It finally became available in my local Weis grocery store.
Please let me know what your favorite type of dressing is in the comments!

Tonight is Luminaria Night!

Planning on driving around to look at lights?  Tonight is the perfect opportunity as it is Luminaria Night!  An event that started in Bethlehem, it has grown to encompass many area neighborhoods (and continues to grow with support of area residents).  Basically, white waxed bags with sand and a tea light are placed along the road, lining the streets with pathways of light.  It is a beautiful sight to behold!  Buying the luminary kits benefits New Bethany Ministries, which provides housing and support to the homeless as well as those who are physically and mentally disabled.  The event starts at dusk!

Here is a list of participating neighborhoods (please note that you may participate regardless of where you live, however!): http://www.newbethanyministries.org/Luminaria-areas-2014.html
*Please note that I have also seen the luminaries in Machungie, even though that neighborhood isn't listed...

Here is the Luminaria Night Facebook Page:

Enjoy the lights and the warmth of the season!

Live outside of the area or worry about open flames in your yard?  Click this link to see luminaries available for sale through amazon, including ways to make them flameless (purchasing LED tea lights for example)!

Ideas to Make Holiday Shopping More Bearable

12/7/2014

Well Shopping season is on again, and for many it is a very stressful time.  Below I have a list of tips that you can use to make the experience easier on you.

-Do it online (preferably using a service that gives you cash back on your purchases like savingstar or ebates)!

-Go at off peak times (weekdays or late at night)

-Try self checkout if the line is shorter

-Only get a few items and then go through the "10 items or less aisle"

-Get everyone on your list one of the same thing (last year I got everyone submersible tealights-they are relaxing and who couldnt use more relaxation?)

-Hand make or bake your gifts instead of buying them

-Give a donation instead of a gift

-Patronize small local shops

-Take time to do the fun things that the season brings amidst the madness-like looking at lights, seeing a show, or just spending time with friends and family! This helps recharge you batteries and strengthen your resolve AND it is the true meaning of this season.

Happy Holidays Everyone!  Remember to breath and enjoy the moment!
